Kilmarnock
Südwestlich von Glasgow gelegen, war die Stadt Kilmarnock in Schottland, kurz gerne "Killie" genannt, lange ein Zentrum der Textil- und Schwerindustrie. Die Fabriken gingen in den letzten Jahrzehnten größtenteils pleite. Zu allem Überfluss wurde in diesem Jahr auch noch die Fabrik von Johnnie Walker geschlossen, dem Whisky, der aus der Stadt stammt und hier fast 200 Jahre lang abgefüllt wurde.
Nur eine Institution ist den 40.000 Bürgern von Kilmarnock noch geblieben: der Kilmarnock FC, praktischerweise ebenfalls "Killie" gerufen. Der KFC ist der älteste Proficlub Schottlands und besteht seit 1869. Als einziger Club außerhalb der vier Großstädte Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee und Aberdeen konnte Killie in den letzten 70 Jahren den Schottischen Meistertitel erringen. Das war 1965. Im anschließenden Europacup der Landesmeister scheiterte Kilmarnock an Real Madrid.
Besser lief es ein Jahr später im Messepokal, in dem erst im Halbfinale gegen Leeds United das Aus kam. Nach zwischenzeitlichem Abstieg ist Kilmarnock seit 1993 wieder durchgängig erstklassig und gewann 1997 zum dritten Mal den Schottischen Pokal. Vor zwei Jahren gelang der Klassenerhalt erst am letzten Spieltag, aber in der aktuellen Saison sieht es nach einem Mittelfeldplatz aus. Im Stadion Rugby Park, das seit mehr als 110 Jahren Heimstatt des Clubs ist, besuchen im Schnitt immerhin knapp 7.000 Fans die Spiele in der Scottish Premier League.

DAVID HEALY believes his Rangers career is over – while St Johnstone and Kilmarnock are both keen to keep him in the Scottish Premier League.
The Northern Irish international, who is preparing for the friendly with Holland, is out of contract and there has been no indication from boss Ally McCoist whether or not he is going to be offered an extension.
Life-long Rangers fan Healy does not expect to return to Ibrox, even if the current transfer embargo remains in place, and his representatives are already looking towards the player’s next port of call.
Saints boss Steve Lomas and Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels are both big fans and would be keen to land the former Preston striker although he also has a number of options in England, including Crawley Town, while he is also considering a possible move to America to play in Major League Soccer.
Healy’s agent, Stephen Hughes, said: “I am working on quite a few things for David just now.
“He hasn’t spoken to anyone at Rangers since he left and there was no indication back then whether or not he was going to be offered a new deal.
“As it stands we believe David will be leaving Rangers and that is why we are looking at his options just now.
“There is interest in Scotland in David and down south and we are also looking at a few things abroad.
“David has a pretty open mind and we will just wait and see what offer he feels is best for him, his football and his family.”
